James Collison mission June 9, 1943

Wednesday 9

A raid was made this day on the air field at Grabini, Sicily. It was what we call bucksheesh or in other words no fighters or ack-ack. There were supposedly some but we didn't see them. The fellows in the other section did. We carried forty one hundred pounders. The air field was left pretty much torn up. We were to get a fighter escort from Malta but didn't. Had me worried for awhile. There was to be approximately one hundred fighters in the area. There was no mail from Penny much to my disappointment. There was a letter from the office of dependency authorizing me to collect for money taken out checks for allotment. Nice time to get it. ......
