Loius J. Durante 12164388 376 BG

by Martin Sullivan
(Jersey City)

B-24 crashed in Morocco on rocky terrain When both engines on one side failed pilot ordered crew to parachute. Durante disobeyed orders. Stayed with pilot and co-pilot probably saved their lives by rapidly getting help to them after the crash. Timed jump from plane just before crash. Plane burning. Pilot and copilot bleeding. Running to airport shooting his 50-mm to attract attention. Durante right arm injured during crash. Refused official recognition. No medal. Durante, born 1922, my uncle I am proud to say, now resides at Veterans Home in Menlo Park NJ.

Needs recognition
by: Thomas Umphries

What an amazing story of friendship and true bravery. This man truly deserves to be called HERO and should have a medal to prove it.
Like so many men who served they performed many acts of unselfish deeds never receiving official recognition.

376 ARCHIVES

The website 376bg.org is NOT our site nor is it our endowment fund.

At the 2017 reunion, the board approved the donation of our archives to the Briscoe Center for American History, located on the University of Texas - Austin campus.

Also, the board approved a $5,000 donation to add to Ed Clendenin's $20,000 donation in the memory of his father. Together, these funds begin an endowment for the preservation of the 376 archives.
